The Story Behind EmojiMaker

It all started with a simple request from a colleague at work. He wanted an icon that combined his photo with an emoji that had become quite famous in our team — a green-faced character with a background of green up-arrows, affectionately named "greenfeels." Since I had some skills with GIMP, I put together an icon for him — let’s call it "Pedro-greenfeels".

Little did I know, this was just the beginning. Soon, the whole team wanted their own "greenfeels" icons: "Dmytro-greenfeels" "Tomas-greenfeels" "Anita-greenfeels" you name it. And as our team kept growing, the demand for these personalized icons grew too.

It became clear that manually creating these icons for everyone wasn’t the most efficient way to go. Plus, I started thinking ahead — what if someday, I’m not around to keep up with all the requests? I realized we needed a solution that would work seamlessly, even if I wasn’t there to handle it myself.

That’s when the lightbulb went off. "Why not make a web app to automate this whole process?" I thought. After a bit of tinkering and some late-night coding sessions, I discovered that it was indeed possible to create such a site using JavaScript. But why stop there? Why not take it a step further and build a platform that could create not just static greenfeels icons, but also animated GIFs and other fun emojis?

And thus, EmojiMaker.lol was born — a site that allows you to turn any photo into a collection of custom emojis, from the iconic greenfeels to animated GIFs, all with a few clicks.
